Do not use this practitioner if you intend be seen under an annual vision exam. This practitioner WILL find a way to bill your medical plan instead (and they can get away with it). They will not inform you this may happen and they may even charge you the co-pay for your vision plan you when you leave but then bill your medical after the fact (this happened to me). The best thing to do is not go to this practice as there are others in town that do not run their practice this way to make a buck. If you must go here, then I highly advise that before you start the visit with the Dr. have a candid discussion with the Dr and ask how he intends to bill you and what will happen if he "diagnoses" you with something or treats you for something- FYI - this can be a pre-existing condition you tell him about as part of the information collection portion of the exam, or if you want a prescription refilled, etc. . Be wary, very wary of this practice. They claim they are being ethical to the insurance companies, however they have lost sight (no pun intended) that they should also be informing their patients so they can make an informed decision about whether they want to use their annual vision plan benefit , or instead use a medical visit instead. In my case, the Dr prescribed me a prescription for dry-eyes which I had previously prescribed to me (however, he did not think I actually needed it and I did not even know he prescribed to me until two phone calls later to his office about billing and then they used this as the final reason they billed my case as medical), but they did not inform me that this would cause my annual vision exam to no longer be filed to my vision plan but instead to my medical. Once I called the office about this issue, the billing person was rude and belligerent. The billing person in the office claimed "it does not matter what you come in for but rather what they find when you get here" and they also stated "the majority of patients that come in for an annual exam, leave with a medical claim". BTW - they also tried to bill my husband's annual exam as medical, as when they asked if he had any "issues" during the exam he mentioned he had blurred vision one day (out of the last year) and then they tried to diagnose him with an ocular-migraine (although my husband said he did not have a headache) and bill his annual vision appt as a medical appt (mind you they did not treat anything or perform any extra services, rather they just used the information gathering portion of the exam as a reason to "diagnose"). My husband caught it at check out as they want him to pay the medical office co-pay ($50 more than the vision co-pay) and it was a big to-do and they had to get the head nurse to "undo" what the Doctor coded the appt as. So this is not just something that happened to me, but rather how this practice does their business (self-admitted). Practitioners have the ability/right to code office visits/annual exams as they deem appropriate with insurance companies, so you have very little ability to change the outcome and very little ability to fight it once it happens. On top of all of this, we waited 2 Hours to see this Dr in the waiting room. Then during the appt, he had the audacity to complain about how the kids in the waiting room were "losing it all day". Umm, yeh, there is like a 2 hr wait...hello!!! I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS DR. I ADVICE, UNLESS YOU MUST SEE HIM FOR A MEDICAL CONDITION DO NOT GO. EVEN THEN, I QUESTION THE OFFICE'S PROFESSIONALISM AND ETHICS.
